Advent Week 3 - Day 5
Day 5: The Mighty Conqueror
Scripture Reading: Psalm 89:1-9; Revelation 19:11-16.
Psalm 89:1-9
1I will sing of the mercies of the Lord forever;
With my mouth will I make known Your faithfulness to all generations.
2For I have said, “Mercy shall be built up forever;
Your faithfulness You shall establish in the very heavens.”
3“I have made a covenant with My chosen,
I have sworn to My servant David:
4‘Your seed I will establish forever,
And build up your throne to all generations.’ ”
5And the heavens will praise Your wonders, O Lord;
Your faithfulness also in the assembly of the saints.
6For who in the heavens can be compared to the Lord?
Who among the sons of the mighty can be likened to the Lord?
7God is greatly to be feared in the assembly of the saints,
And to be held in reverence by all those around Him.
8O Lord God of hosts,
Who is mighty like You, O Lord?
Your faithfulness also surrounds You.
9You rule the raging of the sea;
When its waves rise, You still them.
Revelation 19:11-16
11 Now I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse. And He who sat on him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war. 12 His eyes were like a flame of fire, and on His head were many crowns. He had a name written that no one knew except Himself. 13 He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God. 14 And the armies in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, followed Him on white horses. 15 Now out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should strike the nations. And He Himself will rule them with a rod of iron. He Himself treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. 16 And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS
As the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, Christ is the ultimate conqueror. He defeated sin, death, and the devil. His victory ensures our eternal hope and security. This title given in Revelation 19:16 paints a powerful picture of Christ's triumph. This title reveals His supreme authority over all creation and echos the prophetic passage Psalm 89:9 9, “You rule the raging of the sea; When its waves rise, You still them”
The victory of Christ over sin and death is a cause for great celebration. It is a victory that has eternal implications. Through His sacrifice, we have been redeemed from the power of sin and death. We are no longer slaves to sin but heirs of the kingdom of God.
As we walk in the victory of Christ, let us be bold and courageous. Let us not fear the enemy, for Christ has already defeated him. 2nd Timothy 1:7 reminds us “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind” As the Lion of the tribe of Judah, He conquered sin, death, and the devil and he is coming back again as our conquering King.
Reflection:
How does the knowledge of Christ's victory over sin and the imminent and ultimate conquering of the world affect your daily life and your eternal hope? How can you live a life that reflects the victory of Christ?
