Day 4: The Mighty Deliverer

Scripture Reading: Exodus 14:10-14; Romans 6:6-11

10 And when Pharaoh drew near, the children of Israel lifted their eyes, and behold, the Egyptians marched after them. So they were very afraid, and the children of Israel cried out to the Lord. 11 Then they said to Moses, “Because there were no graves in Egypt, have you taken us away to die in the wilderness? Why have you so dealt with us, to bring us up out of Egypt? 12 Is this not the word that we told you in Egypt, saying, ‘Let us alone that we may serve the Egyptians’? For it would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than that we should die in the wilderness.”

13 And Moses said to the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which He will accomplish for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall see again no more forever. 14 The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace.”

Romans 6:6-11

6 knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin. 7 For he who has died has been freed from sin. 8 Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him, 9 knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, dies no more. Death no longer has dominion over Him. 10 For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God. 11 Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Throughout history, God has proven Himself to be a mighty deliverer. He rescued the Israelites from slavery in Egypt and continues to deliver His people from oppression and hardship.

The Israelites' deliverance from Egypt serves as a powerful symbol of God's redemptive power. Trapped between the Red Sea and the advancing Egyptian army, they seemed hopelessly lost. Yet, God, in His infinite wisdom and power, parted the Red Sea, allowing the Israelites to escape and destroyed their enemies.

This physical deliverance foreshadows the spiritual deliverance that God offers to all who believe in Jesus Christ. Just as the Israelites were enslaved to the Egyptians, we were once enslaved to sin. However, through the sacrificial death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, we have been set free from the bondage of sin.

Romans 6:6-7 declares, "We know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin. For whoever has died has been set free from sin."

As we reflect on God's deliverance of the Israelites, we would do well to remember our deliverance from sin through Christ. Let us be grateful for the freedom that Christ has won for us and live our lives in obedience to Him.

Reflection:

How has God delivered you from a difficult situation or challenge? In what ways has He delivered you from the bondage of sin?
