Scripture Reading: Genesis 1:1; John 1:1-5

1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.

3 Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. 4 And God saw the light, that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. So the evening and the morning were the first day.

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God.

3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. 4 In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shined in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.

Today, we stand in awe of the majestic power of our God, the Creator of all things. As Genesis 1:1 declares, "In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth." This profound statement unveils the divine artistry of God, who, with a single word, brought forth a universe of breathtaking beauty and complexity.

However, the Scriptures draw us deeper into the nature of this Creator. John 1:1-3 reveals a profound truth: "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made." 1 Here, we encounter Jesus Christ, the eternal Word, who was intimately involved in the creation of the universe.

This revelation challenges our understanding of God's nature. It reveals that Jesus, the Son of God, is not merely a creature (created being) but the Creator Himself, the audible voice and spoken word as God said” Let there be light!” He is the source of all life, the sustainer of all things. As we contemplate the vastness of the cosmos, we are reminded of the immense power and wisdom of our God.

Reflection Question: How does understanding Jesus Christ as the Creator of all things impact your view of the universe and your place within it?
