John 8 Part 2
“Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.””- John 8:31-32 NKJV
In John 8, Jesus ignites a fiery discussion with the Jewish religious leaders as he boldly declares himself the Messiah, the light of the world, and the son of God. He emphasizes that true freedom is found in living by His word, which embodies the truth. Yet, the adversary has veiled the spiritual eyes of the religious elite and much of the world. Their pride, self-righteousness, and sin blind them to the reality of His message. Until we confront the issue of sin in our lives, we cannot attain a true understanding of the truth or enter the house of God.
The Jews desperately clung to their ancestry tied to Abraham and their good deeds, mistakenly believing these alone could grant them a place in heaven and peace with God. But Jesus clarifies in John 14:6, “... No one comes to the Father except through Me.” And that their true father is NOT God but rather the devil. Neither good works nor lineage provides automatic access to heaven; nobody can enter the Father’s house without Christ! Jesus boldly states that while slaves do not have everlasting access to the house, a son does! Thus, we must strive to become true children of God rather than children of the adversary. We must resist the temptation to deceive ourselves by claiming our identity through Abraham or any other path that isn’t centered on Jesus. If we fail to make Jesus the Lord of our lives, something else will inevitably take His place, leading us to become enslaved by sin.
