From Death to Life - Our purpose in His Glory

Jun 29, 2025    Pastor Spencer Fusselman

Before encountering Christ, humanity exists in a state of spiritual death - completely cut off from God, the source of all life. This condition, described in Ephesians 2, manifests as both rebellion against God's authority ('trespasses') and failure to meet His standard ('sin'). In this state, we unknowingly follow the course of this world and the prince of darkness, fulfilling fleshly desires while believing we're in control of our lives. The gospel message hinges on two powerful words: 'But God.' Despite our rebellion, God intervened through His mercy, grace, and love. He made us alive with Christ when we were dead in sin - not because of our merit but as His free gift. This salvation transforms us into God's 'masterpiece' (poiema), created in Christ Jesus for good works prepared in advance for us. We are saved not by good works but for good works, restoring our ability to co-steward creation with God. The challenge for believers is to live out this new identity, demonstrating faith through actions that reflect God's character and making disciples as Jesus commanded.
