John Chapter 4 Part 2
Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work. -, Jn 4:34.
Doing the will of the Father was Jesus' sole purpose. As He begins His ministry on earth, He sets an example for us to move people from the physical to the spiritual. So many times we are often too engaged with the task at hand to truly see the spiritual aspects of life and meet someone’s spiritual needs. As this portion of the chapter opens we see spiritual nourishment in doing the will of God. Do you know what is the will of God for your life? If not, then how can you be nourished? Further, we see that God uses this unlikely Samaritan woman to bring an entire city to the knowledge of Him as Christ, Then they said to the woman, “Now we believe, not because of what you said, for we ourselves have heard Him and we know that this is indeed the Christ, the Savior of the world.” John 4:42. This feat was not accomplished simply by sharing her experience but by bringing them back to the WORD that they may see for themselves. How often do we share an experience without bringing the word into that experience? In the final portion, Jesus ministers to an unnamed nobleman, during which Jesus makes an interesting statement to him, “Unless you people see signs and wonders, you will by no means believe.”John 4:48. It seems that this idea of testing God’s power or saying, “If God does this… then I will believe.”, is a toxic concept that existed even then. Could it be the human condition to be faithless? Jesus calls us to faith rather than sight. Looking back at the nobleman, his response shows us that it was never about a lack of faith but compassion for his child.
