John 20
The crucifixion, an act of immense suffering, demonstrated Jesus's profound willingness to sacrifice Himself for humanity. Many have died, and many have claimed their death was for a cause, but the resurrection of Jesus sets Him apart. It wasn't merely the act of dying that held significance, but what followed: His return to life. Jesus said in John 10:17-18, “…I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again." This "power to take it again" is the crux of His divinity. Any human can die; only God can raise Himself from the dead.
John's own experience testifies to this. Upon reaching Jesus's empty tomb, he "saw and believed" (John 20:8). The empty tomb wasn't just the absence of a body; it was the absence of death's power over Jesus. It was the Lightbulb moment where John was able to connect all the dots and bring him to belief. But more than that, It was the ultimate display of God's power to conquer both sin and death. The resurrection is the undeniable evidence that Jesus is not just a man, but the Son of God, who holds the keys to life eternal. It is this act that validates His claims and offers humanity the certainty of salvation and future hope. Ultimately, this truth calls for a response of faith, as Jesus Himself asked, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?" (John 11:25-26).
What evidence, whether historical, personal, or spiritual, has brought us to the point of belief? What was your lightbulb moment?
