Jesus Has Come & Is Coming Again - Isaiah 9:6-7 & Zechariah 14:1-11 - Pastor Steve Kerns - Dec 29
In our advent series, we have covered the titles of Christ as outlined in Isaiah 9:6 “…And His name will be called, Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Through this, we discovered not only the deity of our Lord Jesus but also how these names for the only begotten Son and person of Christ are divinely woven through the history of God’s interaction with man from the beginning of time. From the promise in Genesis three that He shall crush the head of satan, through the promise to Abraham, that he, the fatherless, would be the father of many nations and a blessing to all humanity that through his lineage would come the savior of the world. We explored the beautiful echoes of prophetic anticipation of the first advent of Christ through the Old Testament and confirmed them with the action and person of Jesus through the record of the New Testament. Jesus is Wonderful! Where do you see his wonder in your life? Jesus is THE Counselor, as the source of truth and wisdom but also our advocate for us in the throneroom of Judgment. By his blood, we are imputed with righteousness. As the prophet Isaiah echoes, ‘We are healed by his stripes’. Jesus is our Mighty God! Immanuel God with us. Our warrior king has promised to be with us wherever we go (in battle Jo 1:9), but also, as Jesus commanded us a new conquest to disciple the nations, he has promised that he is with us even to the end of the age. (Mt 28:20) From the intimate whispers of the Everlasting Father to the thunderous roar of the Almighty God, we glimpsed the awe-inspiring scope of the eternal and coming reign of Jesus. However, the prophecy tells of ‘the government on his shoulders’ (Isa 9:6), which speaks to the coming “Day of the Lord” our King, who is to come!
