Christ Is Our Life: Rejoice In All Things- Part I

Oct 19, 2025    Pastor Steve Kerns

The book of Philippians offers profound encouragement for believers facing any circumstance, demonstrating how a life fully surrendered to Christ can overflow with joy even in the darkest situations. Paul, writing from a Roman prison, identifies himself as a bondservant of Jesus Christ - not merely out of humility, but as a declaration of complete surrender. A bondservant was a freed slave who chose to remain with their master permanently because life was better under their care. This spiritual principle applies to every believer who recognizes that life is genuinely better under Christ's lordship.Paul's concept of fellowship in the gospel goes far beyond casual church attendance. The Greek word koinonia means partnership and joint participation, where believers become active participants in God's work through prayer, giving, serving, and growing in His Word. When we support ministries or our local church, we become joint participants in their victories and blessings. Paul's prayer for the Philippians reveals essential spiritual priorities: love that abounds with knowledge and discernment, helping believers distinguish between good, better, and best choices in their Christian walk.Perhaps most powerfully, Paul demonstrates that everything has purpose in God's plan. Even his imprisonment was advancing the gospel as palace guards heard about Christ and other believers became bolder in their witness. Like Joseph in the Old Testament, who saw God work good through his brothers' evil intentions, believers can trust that God works all things together for good for those who love Him. This perspective enables the joy that permeates Philippians - not happiness dependent on circumstances, but deep joy rooted in God's goodness and faithfulness.
