Are We in the End Times?
1 Thessalonians 5:1-11 speaks of the comfort we have in Christ during times of trouble, especially these end times. According to scripture, the world will seemingly spin out of control as in the ‘days of Noah’. Sin will abound and godlessness will increase. However, Christians know that this will all happen before the return of the King. Jesus warns his followers in Matthew chapter 24 that great times of trouble lie ahead for Israel, (arguably the global body of Christ as well), and as Paul writes “3 For when they say, “Peace and safety!” then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape.” 1 Th 5:3. Just as labor pains, the coming turmoil and destruction are the inescapable. Yet for the Christian, we have comfort knowing that God has not appointed His people to wrath (v9) and that whether by rapture, or death, we will be with the King of Kings and Lord of Heavens Armies! As such we are called to comfort each other with the assurance that no matter how hard the times get, our salvation is at hand.
